THE LINEN OPERA – Waking Beauty

THE LINEN OPERA – Waking Beauty

Libretto by Peter Morgan Barnes and composed by Sean Doherty.

Performed by NI Opera Studio singers: Dawn Burns, Conor Breen and Rebecca Murphy.

Plus Chanson D’Armour /French Song Recital with Eileen Coyle (soprano) and Frasier Hickland (Piano.

This is the R–Space Gallery first chamber opera celebrating the beauty and bounty of flax together with the mythologies that surround it; based on the 17th century story of Sleeping Beauty in a post–apocalyptic world.

This tale reveals what happens to Talia in a flax censored world and the dangers of what might happen if a government falls asleep for 100 years. This is a preliminary work for a larger production to be staged in 2020 and has been commissioned by R–Space Gallery as part of the Linen Biennale Northern Ireland.

Supported by Arts Council NI & Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, R–Space is delighted to acknowledge the in–kind support of NI Opera.
