Art, it’s all about coming together

Increasing health and wellbeing and providing a sense of place for everyone.

We believe it’s all about participation too, so whether you want to take part in an arts activity, get your school or community group involved in an arts programme – or even if you fancy volunteering – there really is something for everyone!

We offer funding to training opportunities, information on local grants and bursaries for amateur and professional artists and arts organisations, to develop their skills and explore ways of transferring those skills. We promote collaborative creative processes at grassroots level which enhance access and participation and strengthen the community’s sense of authorship and ownership.

To take advantage or our Community Ticketing and Transport Schemes and keep up to date with Community Arts activities, sign up to our Community E–Zine.  Please contact Lynda.

Enrol in the City of Lisburn & Castlereagh’s FREE Carnival Parade 2017 Workshops. Get Your Feet to the Carnival Beat.

The ISLAND Team want your Community Group or school to get involved in this year’s Mayor’s Carnival Parade. The Parade will take place on Saturday 20 May. This year’s theme is “Ecotastic” so you will have the opportunity to “go green” creating a wealth of magical characters from every day upcycled waste products.

In order to facilitate the involvement of local community, youth and school groups, ISLAND Arts Centre is offering a FREE community arts workshop programme to a number of groups on a first come, first served basis.

Want to Become Involved?

If your group would like to take part please respond by returning the relevant Registration of Interest Form no later than noon on Friday 27 January 2017. You can download a link to the forms by simply clicking the relevant links here  > > COMMUNITY GROUPS’ REG FORM and SCHOOLS’ REG FORM.

Places are limited and the workshops are snapped up quickly so return your forms as soon as possible!

Workshop times and dates will then be arranged at a time that suits you. Forms can be returned by post, email or fax to 028 92 509510.

Arrangements for Carnival Parade Day

On Saturday 20 May free bus transport will be provided for participating schools and groups. The Parade will leave from Lagan Valley Island at 1pm (approx) and finish at Lagan Valley Island at 2.30pm (approx).

In 2016, the Mayor’s Carnival Parade, attracted over 8,000 spectators so this would be a unique occasion to show off the creative talents of your pupils/community members in a fun and celebratory way!

We very much hope that you will join in the fun of this event and ask that should you have any queries in relation to this opportunity please contact Temporary Community Arts Officer, Grainne Kielty, Tel: 028 92 509509.
