This beautifully shot, subtle but charged drama, centres around the unlikely alliance of an elderly piano teacher and a rebellious younger inmate in a German women’s prison.  Four Minutes has won over 40 international awards including Audience Award 15th Hamptons Film Festival New York 2007, Best Film 10th European Film Festival Genoa.

This landmark Italian neorealist drama is frequently on critics’ and directors’ lists of the best films ever made. The retrospective Oscar winning film tells the poignant, powerful tale of a man’s search for his stolen bicycle.  Set in Rome during the post World War II depression, Antonio (Lamberto Maggiorani), who relies on his bicycle to do his bill-posting job, scours the city in vain with his young son, Bruno (Enzo Staiola).

23 June 2010 Good Night And Good Luck, with Media Culture Discussion

Based on true events, this tense drama from director George Clooney, recreates the 1950's era of Senator Joseph McCarthy, who led a campaign to name and shame people he believed to be communists, based on little or no evidence. In this time of Cold War, paranoia and fear, CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow's (David Strathairn) decision to stand up against McCarthy brought about great professional risk to him and his colleagues.This screening was followed by a discussion with Broadcaster and Film Correspondent Tim Burden about issues relating to the film such as media culture, censorship and freedom of expression.
